Dining at Destihl

Exterior of Destihl Restaurant and Brew Works, BloomingtonBloomington’s Destihl Restaurant & Brew Works is a far cry from your average brewery. And its menu offerings are a step—or five—above typical bar food.

The brewpub and restaurant, which opened in November 2008, offers a selection of beers and lagers brewed onsite by a professional brewmaster, as well as a menu featuring American fare—with a twist.

The restaurant is known for its industrial décor and a laidback yet decidedly urban vibe. Brick, wood, stainless steel, and funky fabrics combine to create the perfect backdrop for the Destihl dining experience. Grab a booth, a pub table in the bar, or a spot on the patio to dine.

The Beverages
If you’re looking for a Bud Light, Destihl isn’t the place to stop. If you’re looking for a flavorful, handcrafted beer fresh from the giant silver storage tanks visible at the back of the restaurant, you’re in luck.

Strawberry Blonde Ale at Destihl, BloomingtonDestihl features a selection of flagship brews (Normal Lager, Weissenheimer Hefeweizen, Redbird Ale, Baldock Rye IPA, and Oengus Irish-Style Stout) as well as a variety of seasonal, rotating, and feature beers. Having trouble selecting just one? Sample a variety with a beer flight instead. Or ask your server to recommend the best beverage to accompany your entrée of choice. (Still yearning for a Budweiser? Your best bet is the Normal Lager—you won’t be disappointed.)

Destihl also offers a selection of wines and cocktails.

At first glance, you’ll recognize most of the dishes listed on the menu. Yet the offerings are far from standard, thanks to an infusion of Latin American, Mediterranean, and Asian flavors.

For lunch, try any of the sandwiches (accompanied by Destihl Ancho potato chips), a salad, or a brick-oven pizza. Lunch items range from $4.50 to $10.75.

For dinner, start with an appetizer—try the shrimp and grits or flat iron quesadillas—before you hit the main course. Dinner options run the taste gamut—coconut curry mahi-mahi, slow-cooked meatloaf wrapped in prosciutto, jambalaya, grilled stuff pasta, and an espresso-rubbed ribeye are just a few. Entrees are $10.95 to $25.95.

The restaurant serves a Sunday brunch menu ($7.95–$9.95) with the signature Destihl twist too—how about a poblano pepper frittata or vanilla-cinnamon baked French toast?
