Fourth of July Weekend in LincolnWelcome to Illinois Adventures! I’m glad you’re here and interested in exploring Central Illinois. Trust me, there’s plenty to see.

That’s why I created this travel magazine for all things Central Illinois. After moving to the area a couple of years ago, I realized there’s a veritable treasure trove of activities in the middle of the state—but many people, even those who live in the area, tend to forget just how much there is to do around here.

In my short time in the state, I’ve experienced the local flavor of county fairs, enjoyed the bountiful fruits of many farmer’s markets, tasted the vino from the area’s beautiful vineyards, passed Central Illinois sites from my seat on an Amtrak train, and so much more. But there’s plenty left to do—for me and for you.

I hope Illinois Adventures will serve as a reminder for those who live here of all the great things to see and do. At the same time, it’s my goal to draw more visitors from outside the area to Central Illinois to experience all it has to offer.

Who wouldn’t want to come visit?

It may not have the reputation of its cousin Chicago up north, but this part of the state has plenty to offer residents and visitors alike—great restaurants and entertainment options, gorgeous vineyards, history-packed sites, plenty of events, and all the Illinois hospitality you could ask for.

Don’t take my word for it though. See for yourself by exploring the articles and event listings at illinois-adventures.com. Each week, you’ll find new stories on hotspots old and new worth exploring. I hope you’ll find great sites to visit for the first time and be reminded of old standbys that deserve a second look.

I do, however, have one favor to ask of you: Spread the word about Illinois Adventures to friends, family, and passersby, so they can embark on their own Illinois adventures like you’re about to do.

And let me know what you’d like to see on the site. This publication is for you, after all. Have an event to share? Let me know at events@illinois-adventures.com. Have a favorite Central Illinois destination you’d like to see covered? Send your ideas to editor@illinois-adventures.com. I welcome your feedback—and hope you’ll be as excited about Central Illinois as I am.

    Happy adventures,

    Julie Collins
